In the mid-1960s. A popular singer, Andrikos, and his partner Sonia are secret lovers. However, Andrikos plans to marry the sweet Maria, not because he really loves her, but because he hates Dimitris who really loves her. The latter, who has dropped out of school and is working in a factory, is considering barging in for Australia. He does not know that he is destined, along with many others, to work as a coal miner.
